Christmas 2014

Not a wrong date!  Fast forward to next year's Christmas shopping. If this year causes you to ruin January and February, you might need a different plan for next year.  Add up your spending this Christmas, add taxes if you own your home, and add the things that you would like to do next year.  The figure might be a little staggering, but there is an answer.  Take the total amount and divide by 12.  That is the amount each month you need to sock away in a savings account (not invest).  It's like eating an elephant - one bite at a time.  You'll be glad you did next December.

  1. This is a wonderful plan!!! Christmas comes every year - planning ahead sure helps the pocket book.

  2. During the rest of the year, to resist "impulse" buys, I always asked myself, "How many hours would I have to work to pay for this?" When you put it in that perspective, its surprising what you can do without!
